The Catholic Development Commission in Malawi of the Blantyre Archdiocese (CADECOM Blantyre)
CADECOM is located in the Blantyre City of Malawi and operates in the Southern Districts of the country. Since its establishment, CADECOM has partnered with CRS, FAO, Caritas, Caritas Australia, Cordaid, Australian Aid and TEVETA in various development programs ranging from Livelihoods, Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH), Advocating for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction, Micro-finance, Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation, Climate change, youth empowerment and Early Child development and Education.
CADECOM’s activities are in line with several national and international policy documents and agreements including, but not limited to: the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Malawi Growth and Development Strategy, Malawi’s National Food and Nutrition Security Policy, UNCRPD, National Adaptation Programmes of Action as well as national and international gender and human rights documents.

To create awareness and empower disadvantaged men, women and the youth at all levels to undertake development which is integral, gender and environmentally sensitive, sustainable and which promotes justice, human dignity and self-reliance with the active participation of the people themselves so that they take up the responsibility of their own destiny.
Governance
The governance structure of CADECOM is made up of three organs comprising the AGM, Board of Governors and the Secretariat.
CADECOM- BLANTYRE Archdiocese has been and continues to be involved, in the sector of Relief and Development for the last 40 years mainly in the areas of; Agriculture and Food Security, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Environment and Natural Resources Management, Disaster Risk Management, Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation, Training for Transformation, Nutrition, Lobbying and Advocacy and Cross cutting issues (Gender, HIV and AIDS, Youth, Early Childhood Development, Elderly, Disability, etc.), which have been successfully implemented over the years. In its involvement, CADECOM BLANTYRE Archdiocese has been involved directly or indirectly in such welfare programmes such as provision of safe water supply, Agriculture productivity, management of natural resources (soil & water conservations, Soil fertility improvement), Capacity building for Socio organization and provision of supplements for the victims of HIV/AIDS and disasters (Floods/Drought).

Staffing
CADECOM-Blantyre as an organization has 48 staff members that are effectively trained in project management, finance management and in the different key thematic areas including Special Needs, Spinal Injury Care, Food Security, Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction, WASH, Emergency and Relief, Nutrition, Palliative Care and other areas that the organization focuses on. The organization further works with 500 volunteers who spear head some of its community interventions. The project management team has the necessary academic qualifications and experience to effectively implement the proposed project. For instance, some of the key staff members who will directly be involved in this project have masters’ and bachelor’s degrees in both project management and community development. The organization as a whole boasts of experience in working on similar projects as presented and summarized below:
The board provides oversight to the running of the organization making sure that policy directions are implemented. Its main function is to provide financial oversight and monitoring the implementation of organizational policies. The board sits quarterly where the Executive Director presents quarterly financial and narrative reports for their consideration and approval. The Board reports and is accountable to the Arch Bishop, which is the highest policy making and elective structure of the organization as he is the Legal Holder of the organisation. CADECOM has a strong and committed board that ensures that the policy directives of the organization are implemented while also ensuring fiscal and administrative oversight.

Leadership
CADECOM’s strength as an organization appears valid with a strong technical team as listed above. The Executive Director, Mandinda Zungu, is a strong individual and is equally supported by a qualified and experienced team. The organization has both the programmatic and financial capacity to deliver on projects.
